How to support us

We need your help!

If you live locally then there are many ways in which you may be able to support the life of the Church.  If you join us for worship we welcome participation in a range of roles which will soon become apparent, although we do not believe in twisting people’s arms!  There are some in the wider community who do not worship with us but still offer help with fundraising and practical tasks such as graveyard maintenance.  Do feel free to contact the Vicar if you would like to offer help of any kind.

The upkeep of our magnificent Church and the wider costs of running it are considerable.  It costs something like £125 a day to run.  Donations are always welcome and the Church’s Treasurer is happy to discuss tax efficient ways of giving under Gift Aid.

You could also help the work of the Church by leaving a legacy in your Will. Legacies could really make a difference to our future, so if you think you might be able to do this, please do consider it. Advice can be offered should you be thinking of supporting us in this way.

Our Fabric Appeal

Last year we had a major fundraising campaign to raise money for roof repairs.  With the help of grants from a range of bodies (details of which can be seen in the section on the Church Roof on our Home page), the work is nearing completion.

This re-roofing is though but the first phase of a programme seeking to upgrade the Church.  Our architect recommends remedial work to tackle the build-up of condensation within the building which includes improved drainage and also the upgrading of the heating system.  We have had strong advice that the building will be better conserved if we can keep it at an even temperature of ten degrees during winter and increase from that for services rather than heating it from cold.  The boiler is sound but this would necessitate replacing pipes which is a significant project.  A legacy of the ingress of water prior the re-roofing work is badly spalling plaster and extensive re-plastering work is required.

Beyond these projects, the Church would greatly benefit from improved lighting which would help worshippers and make the Church more flexible as a venue for concerts and exhibitions.  Our Fabric Group is also considering the possibility of creating a second wc and glassing in the Lady Chapel so this can be used as a separately heated space for smaller services and meetings.

If all the work required were to be carried out then we need to find something in the region of £210,000.  We plan to submit a Heritage Lottery Fund application but need to raise a significant sum ourselves.  This is a massive sum for a small community to raise, but it is highly desirable that we carry this work out.  Any help you can give would be very much appreciated as we seek to put the building into a condition which will mean it remains weather tight and fully functional for the next generation.
