I would like to know if St Michael the Archangel church in Kirkby Malham is normally open during the daytime. I hope to be in Kirkby Malham next Wednesday and would dearly love to be able to look at the stained-glass windows in the church.
Yes, the church is open from about 9.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m.
Please could you let me know if a record has been made of the monumental inscriptions in the graveyard. I am particularly interested in John Petty of Kirksyke, Airton, who was buried in May 1783. His baby son John was buried Jan 1777. If there is a gravestone the inscription might be very helpful in my research.
Please advise of any expense incurred.
Yes, there is a record of inscriptions on gravestones in church.
On a recent visit to your lovely church, I noticed a board that said ‘The Parish of Kirby Malhamdale’ had been republished. As I have family links to the area, I would very much like to buy a copy. Having written the contact number incorrectly, I would very much appreciate details of how I may obtain the book.
Dear Mrs Blake,
I apologise for the delay.
If you wish to buy a copy of the book which is by Morkill, could you please contact Robin Bundy who will be able to help you.
